Matthew 10, 24-33

by Fr. Luis A. Zazano

Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Matthew 10, 24-33

Jesus said to his Apostles:
“No disciple is above his teacher,
no slave above his master.
It is enough for the disciple that he become like his teacher,
for the slave that he become like his master.
If they have called the master of the house Beelzebul,
how much more those of his household!

“Therefore do not be afraid of them.
Nothing is concealed that will not be revealed,
nor secret that will not be known.
What I say to you in the darkness, speak in the light;
what you hear whispered, proclaim on the housetops.
And do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul;
rather, be afraid of the one who can destroy
both soul and body in Gehenna.
Are not two sparrows sold for a small coin?
Yet not one of them falls to the ground without your Father’s knowledge.
Even all the hairs of your head are counted.
So do not be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.
Everyone who acknowledges me before others
I will acknowledge before my heavenly Father.
But whoever denies me before others,
I will deny before my heavenly Father.”

Do not be afraid

1. Above. No one is above anyone else, but you can be better than others and not because of a  degree or your resume but because you know how to live and help others to live. That’s why in your life you must discern whether your actions are intended to be beneficial to you and others, or simply to demonstrate superiority over others. You will also come across people who seek to show you that they’re above you. The best thing in these cases is to distance yourself from these people, because they are like spaceships: they try to ascend fast but end up crashing or simply disintegrating.

2. Nothing is concealed. You know that in life sooner or later everything comes to light, and everything is revealed, that’s why there’s nothing wiser than time, because time leads you to the truth, and God to justice. If you have doubts about someone or if you have a bad feeling about some situation, don’t worry, time will give you the answers.

3. Do not fear. Don’t be afraid of building your life and walking along your path. Don’t be afraid of everything you have to face. Take courage and dare to fight for your projects and for what makes you happy. Don’t look for battles that don’t belong to you and don’t look to be the hero of other people’s lives. Let’s ask God that we may be happy people, fighting our own battles and not those of others.

Remember that something good is on the way!

God bless you and be with you in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
