Pope Leo XIV: Brief Biography and Greeting on His 70th Birthday
Leo XIV (Robert Francis Prevost, O.S.A.), born in Chicago on September 14, 1955, served as a missionary in Peru for two decades, was Bishop of Chiclayo (2015–2023), and later Prefect of the Dicastery for Bishops. In 2023 he was created cardinal, and on May 8, 2025, he was elected the 267th Pontiff of the Catholic Church, becoming the first pope born in the United States and also holding Peruvian citizenship.
His election symbolizes continuity with Pope Francis’ pastoral vision and his commitment to a Church that is open, close to the people, and deeply sensitive to social issues.
Today, September 14, 2025, on his 70th birthday, we joyfully join in the celebration. Digital Catholic Missionaries warmly congratulate him, asking God to grant him health, wisdom, and strength to guide the Church. May Mary, our Mother, accompany and guide him today and always in his mission as Universal Pastor.
