Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Luke 9, 18-22
Once when Jesus was praying in solitude,
and the disciples were with him,
he asked them, “Who do the crowds say that I am?”
They said in reply, “John the Baptist; others, Elijah;
still others, ‘One of the ancient prophets has arisen.’”
Then he said to them, “But who do you say that I am?”
Peter said in reply, “The Christ of God.”
He rebuked them and directed them not to tell this to anyone.
He said, “The Son of Man must suffer greatly
and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests, and the scribes,
and be killed and on the third day be raised.”
Life
1. Identity. The Gospel points us toward discovering our identity with Jesus, but also toward understanding our own identity and who we are. Understanding who Jesus is leads you to know who you are. As Saint Augustine so clearly said, ” Lord, let me know myself; let me know you.”
2. Authenticity. It’s the process of being yourself, not what others want you to be. Learn not to live to please everyone, because that isn’t sustainable. Find the strength to accept yourself as you are, knowing your limitations and strengthening your potential.
3. Self-Esteem. Jesus gave his life for you out of love. Don’t be afraid to value yourself and to make others value your life. You are important. Learn to live each day knowing you can find something valuable in it. Don’t be afraid to seek the truth within you and to stand up for who you are, not for what you have.
Never forget that something good is on the way!
God bless you and be with you in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
