Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Luke 9, 1-6
Jesus summoned the Twelve and gave them power and authority
over all demons and to cure diseases,
and he sent them to proclaim the Kingdom of God
and to heal the sick.
He said to them, “Take nothing for the journey,
neither walking stick, nor sack, nor food, nor money,
and let no one take a second tunic.
Whatever house you enter, stay there and leave from there.
And as for those who do not welcome you,
when you leave that town,
shake the dust from your feet in testimony against them.”
Then they set out and went from village to village
proclaiming the good news and curing diseases everywhere.
Healing
1. He summoned. The key is not to isolate yourself. It’s about talking to someone about what’s happening to you, letting yourself be helped, and above all, accepting that you will always need someone in this life. Don’t fall into the arrogance of believing you can solve everything yourself. There are things you can handle and things you can’t.
I’d like to tell you about something that happened to me recently. Someone came to me and said, “Let other people help you,” and it resonated with me because it was true. I realized that I want to solve everything on my own and I don’t know how to delegate. Jesus not only delegates but also empowers his disciples.
2. He sent them. This is the function of the Church: to be sent to relieve and heal, not to control and condemn. We Catholics, and especially priests and nuns, have a reputation for imposing rather than relieving, for blaming rather than comforting, and for condemning rather than encouraging. But nothing could be further from what Jesus intended. You and I must encourage and uplift, comfort and accompany, relieve and guide. We are called to be bridges, not walls, in the lives of others on their journey to God.
3. Remain. To remain in God is to find time for prayer, to seek that smooth, ongoing conversation with Him. If your relationship with God isn’t strong, it will be very difficult for your actions to truly remain in Him. Remember, what motivates you to keep going each day is your perseverance in God, abiding in God, not the results that come from Him.
Always remember that something good is on the way!
God bless you and protect you in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
