Luke 17,26-37

by Fr. Luis A. Zazano

Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Luke 17,26-37

Jesus said to his disciples:
“As it was in the days of Noah,
so it will be in the days of the Son of Man;
they were eating and drinking,
marrying and giving in marriage up to the day
that Noah entered the ark,
and the flood came and destroyed them all.
Similarly, as it was in the days of Lot:
they were eating, drinking, buying,
selling, planting, building;
on the day when Lot left Sodom,
fire and brimstone rained from the sky to destroy them all.
So it will be on the day the Son of Man is revealed.
On that day, someone who is on the housetop
and whose belongings are in the house
must not go down to get them,
and likewise one in the field
must not return to what was left behind.
Remember the wife of Lot.
Whoever seeks to preserve his life will lose it,
but whoever loses it will save it.
I tell you, on that night there will be two people in one bed;
one will be taken, the other left.
And there will be two women grinding meal together;
one will be taken, the other left.”
They said to him in reply, “Where, Lord?”
He said to them, “Where the body is,
there also the vultures will gather.”

Servants

1. To plow. In this life, my friend, we all have a purpose and a commitment. It’s important that you realize you must accept your role and your responsibilities. Don’t dwell on unresolved issues or past disappointments like a relationship that didn’t work out or a job you wanted that no one offered you; keep moving forward. Life brings pain and sacrifice, but focusing on your purpose gives meaning to each step.

2. Prepare something for me. You must understand that everything in life has its moment and its place. You can’t aim to be a manager without first having taken on the simple and basic roles. Sometimes we love to seek results without sacrifice, to harvest without first sowing. Don’t look for a harvest of things that you didn’t sow and learn to live your life with what you have, rather than with what you wish you had.

3. Humble servants. God calls us to live with humility. Remember, God is present in the small, everyday moments of life, so we are invited to approach each day with simplicity and a humble heart. We shouldn’t seek recognition or the spotlight; instead, we are encouraged to serve joyfully and lovingly, allowing nothing and no one to keep us from offering loving service to others. Jesus teaches us to pursue only his glory. Let’s focus on serving with deep humility above all else.

Remember that something good is on the way!

God bless you and protect you in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
