Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Luke 18, 1-8
Jesus told his disciples a parable
about the necessity for them to pray always without becoming weary.
He said, “There was a judge in a certain town
who neither feared God nor respected any human being.
And a widow in that town used to come to him and say,
‘Render a just decision for me against my adversary.’
For a long time the judge was unwilling, but eventually he thought,
‘While it is true that I neither fear God nor respect any human being,
because this widow keeps bothering me
I shall deliver a just decision for her
lest she finally come and strike me.’”
The Lord said, “Pay attention to what the dishonest judge says.
Will not God then secure the rights of his chosen ones
who call out to him day and night?
Will he be slow to answer them?
I tell you, he will see to it that justice is done for them speedily.
But when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?”
Prayer is powerful
1. Prayer. Prayer is a heartfelt conversation with God. It’s the grace of being able to express to God what you’re experiencing. Many people may not realize how powerful prayer truly is or how it can shape their lives. Although prayer is a crucial part of life, it is often overlooked or neglected. Remember, prayer has the ability to break through barriers, provide security, comfort, encouragement, and clarity. Don’t lose heart. Prayer is essential for reaching goals that might seem impossible.
2. The widow. This parable teaches us the importance of humility and perseverance, both of which we should nurture within ourselves. Often, we’re not persistent in prayer nor in following through what must be done. Keep in mind that humility and prayer are the foundations of holiness. And of course, faith, which is God’s gift that gives us strength. A person with faith finds peace, and with peace comes the ability to forgive. Forgiveness enables us to journey through life with kindness and determination. Are you a person who perseveres towards those ideals you desire to achieve?
3. The judge. Prayer has the power to soften even the hardest hearts. Don’t hesitate to ask, pray, and persevere. Pursue the dreams that God has placed in your heart with conviction, and don’t allow anyone’s hardness stifle that dream that God has planned for you since eternity. Have courage, because prayer transforms everything, uplifts you, and leads you forward.
Remember that something good is on the way!
