Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint John 1, 29-34
John the Baptist saw Jesus coming toward him and said,
“Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world.
He is the one of whom I said,
‘A man is coming after me who ranks ahead of me
because he existed before me.’
I did not know him,
but the reason why I came baptizing with water
was that he might be made known to Israel.”
John testified further, saying,
“I saw the Spirit come down like a dove from the sky
and remain upon him.
I did not know him,
but the one who sent me to baptize with water told me,
‘On whomever you see the Spirit come down and remain,
he is the one who will baptize with the Holy Spirit.’
Now I have seen and testified that he is the Son of God.”
Lamb of God
- To approach. As you move forward along your life’s path, you are likely to sense certain events or challenges on the horizon. Some may already be expected for this year, and you will eventually have to confront them. There’s a difference between going out to look for these challenges and simply waiting for them to appear. Today, I encourage you to pay close attention to what’s ahead and to thoughtfully plan each step and decision you’ll make this year.
- Ranks ahead of me. Living well involves reflecting on your past and looking toward your future, since both influence your everyday actions and choices. Don’t lose sight of where you’ve come from or where you’re headed; instead, use both perspectives to create a solid plan and set up a process for yourself. Life isn’t governed solely by chance, and it isn’t just a series of random events. Achievements are the result of intentional reflection and prayer—by setting your eyes on what you hope to achieve and asking God for the strength to reach even your toughest goals.
- Know. To know is to learn, and our purpose is to grow in wisdom through our experiences, so our decisions are shaped by what we’ve learned. Give yourself the opportunity to deepen your knowledge of Christ, so you may come to truly love Him, and by doing so, let your life be changed by His example, becoming more Christ-like. Always remember this key truth: “You cannot love what you do not know.”
Remember that something good is on the way!
God bless you, be with you and protect you in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
