John 15,12-17

by Fr. Luis A. Zazano

Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint John 15,12-17

Jesus said to his disciples:
“This is my commandment: love one another as I love you.
No one has greater love than this,
to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.
You are my friends if you do what I command you.
I no longer call you slaves,
because a slave does not know what his master is doing.
I have called you friends,
because I have told you everything I have heard from my Father.
It was not you who chose me, but I who chose you
and appointed you to go and bear fruit that will remain,
so that whatever you ask the Father in my name he may give you.
This I command you: love one another.”

To love is to serve

1. Friends. This is the kind of relationship God desires for you. Don’t let your connection with Christ become just another set of rules or roles. Your love for Him should be genuine, fresh, and rooted in the freedom He offers. It’s an opportunity to be brave enough to live in Him, and to open your heart fully to a spiritual life alongside Him. Make room for prayer, because love requires relationship, a true encounter and meaningful conversation.

2. Servants. A servant might lack a sense of belonging, which is why Jesus calls us “friends.” Friendship brings belonging and motivates us to seek something greater together. When you do good, let it spring from friendship, not just duty. If you act only to fulfill obligations, you can miss the deeper meaning behind each act of kindness toward those around you.

3. Chosen. God is the one who chooses you. Understand that He does so simply because He wants to—not because of your accomplishments or titles. Some people hide behind their professional roles or achievements, but God reminds you today that the most important thing is to return to Him and have the courage to get to know Him better every day.

Never forget that something good is on the way!

God bless you and be with you in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
