Mark 1,14-20.

by Fr. Luis A. Zazano
Mark 1 14-20

Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Mark 1,14-20.

After John had been arrested, Jesus came to Galilee proclaiming the Gospel of God:
“This is the time of fulfillment. The kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel.”
As he passed by the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting their nets into the sea; they were fishermen.
Jesus said to them, “Come after me, and I will make you fishers of men.”
Then they abandoned their nets and followed him.
He walked along a little farther and saw James, the son of Zebedee, and his brother John. They too were in a boat mending their nets.
Then he called them. So they left their father Zebedee in the boat along with the hired men and followed him.

Yesterday Christmas ended, today we begin a new ordinary year with the opportunity to make it extraordinary.

  1. Conversion- This refers when like every beginning of the week, we must start with energy. Probably many are coming back from vacation, it is a good time to think about what we did right last year, and we must not do this year, learning from past mistakes. We must fix things that have to change and turn things around for the better. Those of us who work must meditate on the things we have to change in order for our life to be better and help us grow. Reflect upon the fact of what you do or what you have. Do these things make you a better person? Maybe this is our opportunity to begin fresh and new, like a new book.
  2. Choice- Jesus chooses 12 people and calls them by their name. He takes their identity, takes on their lives and immerses Himself in every aspect of their journey. God choose you, but He does not take your identity, to the contrary He elevates it and make sense of it. It is your mission in this world to find what gives you purpose to live. You are called upon to make sense of your living since you are called upon to participate.  The choice for this purpose requires that you learn to give up certain things.
  3. Action- God calls upon you not to be a spectator rather a participant in the life of others. God does not ask you to be his instrument to serve him, He does not ask you to soften to do the job that needs to be done.  He asks you to be normal to serve with love and help others.

May God bless you and the name of the Father and of the son and of the holy spirit
