Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Matthew 6,1-6.16-18
Jesus said to his disciples: “Take care not to perform righteous deeds in order that people may see them; otherwise, you will have no recompense from your heavenly Father.
When you give alms, do not blow a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets to win the praise of others. Amen, I say to you, they have received their reward.
But when you give alms, do not let your left hand know what your right is doing,
so that your almsgiving may be secret. And your Father who sees in secret will repay you.
When you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, who love to stand and pray in the synagogues and on street corners so that others may see them. Amen, I say to you, they have received their reward.
But when you pray, go to your inner room, close the door, and pray to your Father in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will repay you.
When you fast, do not look gloomy like the hypocrites. They neglect their appearance, so that they may appear to others to be fasting. Amen, I say to you, they have received their reward.
But when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face,
so that you may not appear to be fasting, except to your Father who is hidden. And your Father who sees what is hidden will repay you.”
Remember you are dust and in dust you will become
1) Look at your inside: this is how today´s gospel starts, stop acting in social networks, lower your profile and stop taking so many selfies. Today we invite you for forty days to look at your inside and analyze. It is the time to make a change. The party is over and we must take life seriously. Look and stark analyzing yourself from the viewpoint of your “spiritual self”. This picture is not one you will publish, but it will serve to take a hard look at your life and announce to God. Let´s see what God has to say about this picture, will He give it a Like? Or make comments?
2) Alms, fasting and prayer: there are the 3 axis that are important during Lent. It is a time to do penance, fast in order to feel need, not only for the purpose of losing weight. It is a time to give to others, a time for prayer and talk to God more often about your life.
3) Last purpose: Mary. Today come closer to Mary. Ask Her to help you live Lent in the best way possible for you. Maybe you are not a fan of praying the rosary, but please I ask of you that you come closer to an image of Her, the one you like best and ask her to take care of your hear and help you to change. She is our Mother and knows perfectly what you need. Today is it important that you participate in mass and impose the ashes. Start a new life. Clean yourself.
