John 2 13-22

Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint John 2,13-22

Since the Passover of the Jews was near, Jesus went up to Jerusalem.
He found in the temple area those who sold oxen, sheep, and doves, as well as the money-changers seated there.
He made a whip out of cords and drove them all out of the temple area, with the sheep and oxen, and spilled the coins of the money-changers and overturned their tables,
and to those who sold doves he said, “Take these out of here, and stop making my Father’s house a marketplace.”
His disciples recalled the words of scripture, “Zeal for your house will consume me.”
At this the Jews answered and said to him, “What sign can you show us for doing this?”
Jesus answered and said to them, “Destroy this temple and in three days I will raise it up.”
The Jews said, “This temple has been under construction for forty-six years, and you will raise it up in three days?”
But he was speaking about the temple of his body.
Therefore, when he was raised from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this, and they came to believe the scripture and the word Jesus had spoken.

Caring for the temple

1 Entering the temple. Today I propose that you reflect on the temple. A novel I loved reading called: “Cathedral of the Sea” is about a real cathedral in Barcelona. Now, it is a movie on Netflix. This is the story of how this temple was constructed by fishermen. Notice how many people are involved in building a temple. I want to make the distinction between the “temple”; the building, and the “church”, which is the group of faithful people.Think about how today ,what do we do to care for our temples ? We have abandoned so many details and polite customs like: being silent when entering the temple, not chewing gum nor eating, and…no cellphones ! Where do I begin with phones? …… they even make phone calls inside the temple ! What has become of us ? Today I would like to know what is your contribution to your temple ? And you might reply: “Father, it’s been years since I set foot inside a temple. ” Maybe your contribution today will be just that… to go visit a temple.

2 Zeal . Above all we are invited to take care and cultivate our way of worship, of liturgy, and how we celebrate our faith. We are called upon to defend our worship and our faith. Everything is ridiculed now days, and when you try to set things straight with others, you are often met with aggression. Today we learn from Jesus , and we show respect for what is sacred, from the way we dress in church – to turning off our phones.

3 Basilica of Letran : Today is the day of the pope’s cathedral. Despite living in the Vatican and St. Peter’s Cathedral, the pope’s Cathedral is in Letran, Argentina. Do you know the meaning of “cathedral “? It means “chair” because the chair is the place from where the master teaches. It is because of that, that we celebrate the temple; a place that took many years to be erected; but where great lessons took place. Today , if you can, please visit any temple nearby and say a simple prayer. Are you willing to?

God bless you in the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
And remember, heaven is our goal.

Your contribution help us to continue with our mission
God Bless You!
