Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint John 1,1-18
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
He was in the beginning with God.
All things came to be through him, and without him nothing came to be. What came to be
through him was life, and this life was the light of the human race;
the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
A man named John was sent from God.
He came for testimony, to testify to the light, so that all might believe through him.
He was not the light, but came to testify to the light.
The true light, which enlightens everyone, was coming into the world.
He was in the world, and the world came to be through him, but the world did not know him.
He came to what was his own, but his own people did not accept him.
But to those who did accept him he gave power to become children of God, to those who believe in his name,
who were born not by natural generation nor by human choice nor by a man’s decision but of God.
And the Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us, and we saw his glory, the glory as of the Father’s only Son, full of grace and truth.
John testified to him and cried out, saying, “This was he of whom I said, ‘The one who is coming after me ranks ahead of me because he existed before me.'”
From his fullness we have all received, grace in place of grace,
because while the law was given through Moses, grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.
No one has ever seen God. The only Son, God, who is at the Father’s side, has revealed him.
The Word
1) His strength: During the years, I‘ve been meditating the Gospel with you everyday, and I’ve realized the way God works in your heart and in mine. You and I are fighters. Although sometimes we feel the same, sometimes we stand out and get noticed, but other times we become reluctant. It’s like the Word of God that is always updated; it has new meaning in your life…During these years, we have gone through a lot. I can imagine that, at some point, you might have started to get tired of listening to the audios… I have to admit there are moments I can not even stand listening to them myself. That’s why we must let the Word get inside us and let it work in us, because “God works.”
2) Light: Today, as this year comes to an end, my new year’s propositions are: “do not be afraid” and even, “take action with fear” in order to follow God’s plan in your life. Changes will surely come in this new year, which may be scary and difficult.
Your head can spin around and drive you into darkness with worry; but don’t stop being yourself, no matter how many changes you may have to face. Never neglect your inner integrity.
You are light ! Sometimes you will be a really big fire, and other times just a small flame that you have to carefully look after, so it won’t blow out.
3) Processes: Everything in life is a process. Joining someone for life is a process, and separation is a process too.
The process of being a priest; the process of starting a family; a business; starting a new a job, etc. Things are not accomplished from one day to the next, and they should not be dropped from one day to the next either.
So, here’s to a “new year…and new struggles.” Today, stop and think for a little while about all the things you lived this year. Come on! Heaven is our goal!
