Luke 4, 24-30

by Fr. Luis A. Zazano
Luke 4, 24-30 YB

Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Luke 4,24-30.

Jesus said to the people in the synagogue at Nazareth: “Amen, I say to you, no prophet is accepted in his own native place.
Indeed, I tell you, there were many widows in Israel in the days of Elijah when the sky was closed for three and a half years and a severe famine spread over the entire land.
It was to none of these that Elijah was sent, but only to a widow in Zarephath in the land of Sidon.
Again, there were many lepers in Israel during the time of Elisha the prophet; yet not one of them was cleansed, but only Naaman the Syrian.”
When the people in the synagogue heard this, they were all filled with fury.
They rose up, drove him out of the town, and led him to the brow of the hill on which their town had been built, to hurl him down headlong.
But he passed through the midst of them and went away.

Nobody has it easy

1) He is not received in his land: how many things must come to mind with this phrase. Where you even know that sharing the gospel in your home or with your family is difficult, because they can perceive you as a fanatic or a fundamentalist. Some may even be waiting for you to make a mistake and confront you with it. Remember that being a Catholic is the same as being a prophet. It is a divine vocation. Christianity is a vocation, a calling. Catholicism is a commitment in your life and a grace that God gives you in order for you to move forward because we cannot do it alone.

2) Elias and Solomon´s situation: there are moments when we spend our time looking at what others have and we don’t realize what we have; It is good thing for you to value a bit more the things that you have around you, stop looking at what others have, look at the richness within you. At times it seems you are dispersed, concentrating on other things and not on the wealth that you can exploit. Look at your family, your loved ones, the beautiful things that you possess. We always want to have what others have or enjoy what others are enjoying.

3) They pushed him: there are times when we don’t like being told things, we fall into this tension that the one who tells me things is my enemy or does not love me… No! Remember that we have fraternal correction in our Christian life and it is to grow as persons.

God does not leave you alone but it is good to polish your interior day by day. I know you have a lot to offer and that you have wealth to exploit. Do not lose your concentration focusing on others, look at yourself, focus on you and get to know yourself better.

God bless you and be with you in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. And always remember, Heaven is our goal!
