Luke 12,1-7

by Fr. Luis A. Zazano

Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Luke 12, 1-7

Meanwhile, when the crowd gathered by the thousands, so that they trampled on one another, Jesus began to speak first to his disciples, “Beware of the yeast of the Pharisees, that is, their hypocrisy. Nothing is covered up that will not be uncovered, and nothing secret that will not become known. Therefore whatever you have said in the dark will be heard in the light, and what you have whispered behind closed doors will be proclaimed from the housetops. I tell you, my friends, do not fear those who kill the body, and after that can do nothing more. But I will warn you whom to fear: fear him who, after he has killed, has authority to cast into hell. Yes, I tell you, fear him! Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten in God’s sight. But even the hairs of your head are all counted. Do not be afraid; you are of more value than many sparrows.”

Do not fear

1) Be careful. Sadly, I must warn you that you have to be careful of everyone, including people that help in the church. Envy and hunger for power often overcome us. You have to be careful of hypocrisy and also pay attention so you do not fall into hypocrisy. You have to be careful with those that use God to hurt others. Please do not fall into the hypocritical attitude of the Pharisees.

2) Nothing is hidden. It is necessary to lead a transparent life. God asks for your transparency in order to be with Him. We are not a secret legion nor people that live in secret. We speak the truth, live by the truth, and we are free. If you want to be free, learn to live in truth.

3) You are valuable. Humiliation often leads us to feelings of sadness and worthlessness. We are God’s children, and you are just as valuable as each of your brothers or sisters. You are worthy and so are they. We must remember that no one is superior to anyone else…we are all God’s beloved children. That’s why we must not humiliate anyone. It is our job to learn to appreciate others. Today you could pray a rosary for someone you have humiliated or that has humiliated you… Pray a rosary and bring forgiveness to your heart!

God bless you in the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Remember, heaven is our goal!
