Luke 1, 46-56

by Fr. Luis A. Zazano

Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according Saint Luke 1, 46-56

Mary said:

“My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord;
my spirit rejoices in God my savior.
for he has looked upon his lowly servant.
From this day all generations will call me blessed:
the Almighty has done great things for me,
and holy is his Name.
He has mercy on those who fear him
in every generation.
He has shown the strength of his arm,
and has scattered the proud in their conceit.
He has cast down the mighty from their thrones
and has lifted up the lowly.
He has filled the hungry with good things,
and the rich he has sent away empty.
He has come to the help of his servant Israel
for he remembered his promise of mercy,
the promise he made to our fathers,
to Abraham and his children for ever.”

Mary remained with Elizabeth about three months
and then returned to her home.

They will call me blessed

1. Greatness. In the course of this year, you must have experienced many beautiful things. I know that there have also been blows, but I invite you to slow down and think about those that encourage you to continue to fight, to look at your life in a different way; those things that lead you to say, “God really exists”. They are the things that make you grow, that remind you that if you believe there is always a light to illuminate your path. Rejoice in those things that encourage you to keep going. You must hold on to those beautiful situations or moments that have marked your life for good and that  make you happy and fill your soul.

2. The proud. The Magnificat, or Canticle of Mary, invites us a to be humbler, because nothing is ours, everything is the work of the Holy Spirit in us. The way to humility is knowing that we all have battles to fight, and that we must help one another. Don’t let pride make you believe that you can do everything on your own. We must learn from Mary and ask her to help us to trust in God, to be helpful and, to remember that we all struggle in life, and we all have ups and downs, but God is always with us to help us.

3. Remained there three months.  Let nothing and no one tie you down; always help but without looking for anyone to be dependent on you, just as those who help you from the heart do not demand anything from you and respect your freedom. Service is selfless and brings joy and peace. So, let’s always help others, but let’s also learn to let go. Everything has its time and place. We must learn to help and disappear.

Never forget that something good is on the way!

God bless you, be with you and protect you in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
