Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Mark 9, 2-10

Jesus took Peter, James, and his brother John,
and led them up a high mountain apart by themselves.
And he was transfigured before them,
and his clothes became dazzling white,
such as no fuller on earth could bleach them.
Then Elijah appeared to them along with Moses,
and they were conversing with Jesus.
Then Peter said to Jesus in reply,
“Rabbi, it is good that we are here!
Let us make three tents:
one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”
He hardly knew what to say, they were so terrified.
Then a cloud came, casting a shadow over them;
from the cloud came a voice,
“This is my beloved Son. Listen to him.”
Suddenly, looking around, they no longer saw anyone
but Jesus alone with them.

As they were coming down from the mountain,
he charged them not to relate what they had seen to anyone,
except when the Son of Man had risen from the dead.
So they kept the matter to themselves,
questioning what rising from the dead meant.

He was transfigured

1. A high mountain. To look up to heaven and to experience spiritual life, it’s necessary to step back and take some time. Jesus led his friends up a high mountain, to the place where he was going to meet his Father God. We, too, should be close to our friends, those to whom we can open our heart and find God. And we have this task, to take our friends to meet God, to go together with them to have that experience of God. But notice how Jesus did it; He was neither imposing nor insistent. He invited them with closeness and fraternity. Sometimes we’re a bit persistent to lead people to God and we may even fall into a fanatic attitude that can drive people away or make them simply tired of us. Remember, it’s in closeness and brotherhood, in walking together, that we can lead others to God.

2. It is good that we are here. This is what Peter says. Yes, the experience with God is beautiful. But it must set in motion a way of being and of living. You can’t lead a Christian life only through experiences and feelings. Christian life is a process of maturation and formation. When I began to follow Jesus, all my time, energy and predisposition were devoted to God’s things, as if I had direct and complete Wi-Fi connection with him every day. But over time one discovers that Christian life is a process of maturity and that it doesn’t only involve feelings.

3. Do not tell anyone. Jesus asks for prudence. One thing is to keep silent about the truth, and another is knowing when to speak it. He has taken his friends with him so that they can keep this wonderful moment in their memory for the difficult times that will come. There are moments in your life that are beautiful, and you must keep them to yourself, in your heart, so you’ll be able to remember them when times of crisis and hard blows come. When challenges come your way, remember the battles you’ve won. In times of failure, remember those moments when you got up and kept on going. When you feel lonely remember how many people have said, “I love you”. We all go through hard times, but God keeps reminding us that his promise is still intact. He is always by our side.

Remember that something good is on the way!

God bless you and be with you in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
