Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint John 20, 2-8
On the first day of the week,
Mary Magdalene ran and went to Simon Peter
and to the other disciple whom Jesus loved, and told them,
“They have taken the Lord from the tomb,
and we do not know where they put him.”
So Peter and the other disciple went out and came to the tomb.
They both ran, but the other disciple ran faster than Peter
and arrived at the tomb first;
he bent down and saw the burial cloths there, but did not go in.
When Simon Peter arrived after him,
he went into the tomb and saw the burial cloths there,
and the cloth that had covered his head,
not with the burial cloths but rolled up in a separate place.
Then the other disciple also went in,
the one who had arrived at the tomb first,
and he saw and believed.
The beloved disciple
1. The last apostle. Today is the feast of Saint John, Apostle and Evangelist, who wrote the Gospel of John and the book of Revelation, also known as the Apocalypse, the last book of the Bible. He was also the last apostle to die. His task was to remind us to have a deep and hopeful perspective on life. That’s why he’s portrayed with the image of an eagle, because those who have Christ in their heart can fly very high and, at the same time, have a deep insight into things. Be the eagle of your life.
2. The youngest. When he began to follow Jesus, he was around 15 years old. Quite young, but for a person of faith maturity is not physical, it’s the attitude with which you face life. That’s why there are people who are older, but immature; and there are mature young people. To be mature in life is to walk with one’s feet on the ground, living with responsibility and commitment.
3. At the foot of the Cross. When your convictions about what and who you should live for are clear, you’ll be able to bear all the crosses that come your way because they won’t stop you. Being at the foot of the Cross is something that only those who genuinely follow Christ, those who truly believe in him can do. Many may claim to be Christians, but few can believe before the Cross. May St. John help you to be passionate in life, living with devotion and dedication to others, and especially to what and who you love.
Never forget that something good is on the way!
God bless you, be with you and protect you in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
