Seeking Jesus

Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Mark 1, 29-39

On leaving the synagogue
Jesus entered the house of Simon and Andrew with James and John.
Simon’s mother-in-law lay sick with a fever.
They immediately told him about her.
He approached, grasped her hand, and helped her up.
Then the fever left her and she waited on them.

When it was evening, after sunset,
they brought to him all who were ill or possessed by demons.
The whole town was gathered at the door.
He cured many who were sick with various diseases,
and he drove out many demons,
not permitting them to speak because they knew him.

Rising very early before dawn,
he left and went off to a deserted place, where he prayed.
Simon and those who were with him pursued him
and on finding him said, “Everyone is looking for you.”
He told them, “Let us go on to the nearby villages
that I may preach there also.
For this purpose have I come.”
So he went into their synagogues, preaching and driving out demons
throughout the whole of Galilee.

Seeking Jesus

1. He went off to pray. Prayer was at the heart of Jesus’ life. Never neglect your moments of prayer, whether it’s spending quiet time in a chapel or simply sitting in silence with God. Find your own time and space for this. It’s in these moments that you discover the strength you need to face each day, and it’s here you’ll find answers to many questions. Remember, silence is essential.

2. He took her by the hand. Jesus brings healing, but his simple act of taking someone by the hand and helping them up is powerful. It shows He never abandons you; He’s always there to help you rise again. We want you to know that you are never alone, no matter what you’re going through. We want to be there to support you, we are here to take your hand and lift you up to help you stand when life feels overwhelming. Don’t let discouragement or false perceptions take over. You have so much to share and contribute to the world. Let us help you rise—don’t give up on yourself.

3. He went out to other places. Having a missionary spirit means seeking out others. Today, take that step—visit someone who needs you, send a text just to check in, or share a Gospel reflection with someone who may feel distant from God. If nothing else, offer up a prayer for someone in need. Don’t stay in your comfort zone—go out and reach others. That’s our calling.

Don’t forget that something good is on the way!

God bless you in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
