Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint John 6, 30-35
The crowd said to Jesus:
“What sign can you do, that we may see and believe in you?
What can you do?
Our ancestors ate manna in the desert, as it is written:
He gave them bread from heaven to eat.”
So Jesus said to them,
“Amen, amen, I say to you,
it was not Moses who gave the bread from heaven;
my Father gives you the true bread from heaven.
For the bread of God is that which comes down from heaven
and gives life to the world.”
So they said to Jesus,
“Sir, give us this bread always.”
Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life;
whoever comes to me will never hunger,
and whoever believes in me will never thirst.”
The crowd
1. Signs. Life is full of signs, and it’s important to learn how to recognize and interpret what God is communicating through them. If we fail to notice the signs God places before us, we risk forgetting all He has done and continues to do in our lives.
2. They ate. The Eucharist nourishes and strengthens us. Often, we have treated attending Mass as a mere obligation, without understanding the true meaning of the Eucharist in a Christian’s life. Today, take the opportunity to explore this mystery of faith more deeply. Realize that Mass is not simply about meeting a requirement; it is a loving encounter with the living Christ that supports and enriches your life. Jesus, as the true food, satisfies us completely.
3. Life. Jesus is the Bread of Life. Our lives and the life of the Church are sustained by Christ, who gives us life every time the bread is broken. If you can, spend time in front of a tabernacle and allow yourself to simply be present. Let God speak to you in the silence. Or attend Mass and try to recognize Him in the breaking of the bread.
Always remember that something good is on the way!
God bless you and guard you in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
