John 6, 16-21

by Fr. Luis A. Zazano

Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint John 6, 16-21

When it was evening, the disciples of Jesus went down to the sea,
embarked in a boat, and went across the sea to Capernaum.
It had already grown dark, and Jesus had not yet come to them.
The sea was stirred up because a strong wind was blowing.
When they had rowed about three or four miles,
they saw Jesus walking on the sea and coming near the boat,
and they began to be afraid.
But he said to them, “It is I. Do not be afraid.”
They wanted to take him into the boat,
but the boat immediately arrived at the shore
to which they were heading.

Don’t be afraid, it’s me

  1. It had already grown dark. Everyone faces times of darkness in life—periods of uncertainty, loneliness, and fear. These difficult moments are unavoidable, so it’s important to be prepared. When things seem dark, the only way to keep moving forward is to remember the lessons you learned during brighter times. Remind yourself not to make major decisions when you’re in the midst of darkness. Instead, use that time to reflect and wait until clarity returns before acting.
  2. The disciples were frightened. Often, it’s hard to recognize God’s presence during times of hardship and struggle, which can lead to fear. If we don’t take steps to grow and strengthen our faith, God’s presence might seem intimidating instead of comforting. Fear can freeze us, confuse us, and make us panic. Sometimes, our imagination runs wild and can even make us feel overwhelmed.
  3. Do not be afraid. Returning to faith brings peace and helps you endure challenges. Don’t let dark times keep you from moving forward. Jesus is by your side—trust Him and keep going. With patience and faith, clarity will come. Be confident that with faith, things will eventually work out.

Never forget that something good is on the way.

God bless you and protect you in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
