John 6,1-15

by Fr. Luis A. Zazano

Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint John 6,1-15

Jesus went across the Sea of Galilee.
A large crowd followed him,
because they saw the signs he was performing on the sick.
Jesus went up on the mountain,
and there he sat down with his disciples.
The Jewish feast of Passover was near.
When Jesus raised his eyes and saw that a large crowd was coming to him,
he said to Philip, “Where can we buy enough food for them to eat?”
He said this to test him,
because he himself knew what he was going to do.
Philip answered him,
“Two hundred days’ wages worth of food would not be enough
for each of them to have a little.”
One of his disciples,
Andrew, the brother of Simon Peter, said to him,
“There is a boy here who has five barley loaves and two fish;
but what good are these for so many?”
Jesus said, “Have the people recline.”
Now there was a great deal of grass in that place.
So the men reclined, about five thousand in number.
Then Jesus took the loaves, gave thanks,
and distributed them to those who were reclining,
and also as much of the fish as they wanted.
When they had had their fill, he said to his disciples,
“Gather the fragments left over,
so that nothing will be wasted.”
So they collected them,
and filled twelve wicker baskets with fragments
from the five barley loaves that had been more than they could eat.
When the people saw the sign he had done, they said,
“This is truly the Prophet, the one who is to come into the world.”
Since Jesus knew that they were going to come and carry him off
to make him king,
he withdrew again to the mountain alone.

Went across

1. Followed him. People follow Jesus not only because of what he says, but because of the way He lives his life. In life, you may say many things, but it’s your actions, your gestures, your personality, and your honesty that truly move and inspire others. So, my friend, don’t let your life become nothing but meaningless talk or a résumé made only for praise and achievements. Concentrate on building strong character and never forget the people who have helped you along the way. To do this, you must have a grateful memory.

2. The sick. There will always be people around us who are suffering or sick. We need to learn how to treat them with kindness and compassion and walk alongside them. We might not have the medicine or the cure, but simply being present can provide immense comfort to someone else. Don’t let life’s busyness make you forget that everyone needs someone. Always be willing to lend a helping hand; you never know when you’ll need someone’s support in your own life.

3. The loaves. Sometimes we think we need a miracle to believe, but your own life is already a miracle to many people—even if you don’t realize it. That’s why it’s important to allow yourself to fully experience life and recognize that there are miracles to witness every day—from your good health and the ability to walk and run, to food on your plate. Faith transforms your ‘little’ into ‘a lot’. Even a small gift can start something extraordinary. Stay committed and learn to give yourself to others daily.

Always remember that something good is on the way!

God bless you and be with you in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
