Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Luke 11,29-32
While still more people gathered in the crowd, Jesus said to them, “This generation is an evil generation; it seeks a sign, but no sign will be given it, except the sign of Jonah.
Just as Jonah became a sign to the Ninevites, so will the Son of Man be to this generation.
At the judgment the queen of the south will rise with the men of this generation and she will condemn them, because she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon, and there is something greater than Solomon here.
At the judgment the men of Nineveh will arise with this generation and condemn it, because at the preaching of Jonah they repented, and there is something greater than Jonah here.”
The Signs
1) Wicked: Jesus continues to tell us that there is wickedness among us. Bad attitudes appear in our society; we hurt each other and the desire to “get my way” is killing the community. It’s hard for us to accept that everything belongs to everyone, and as a result, no one wants to be responsible. Many times we hurt ourselves by trying to complicate the life of another. Sometimes we just don’t want our bothers to succeed. We are bad; we must mediatate on changing our behavior. You can’t keep looking for ways to destroy a person just for revenge. Our generation is killing one another…we no longer transmit moral values, we “tolerate” and accept everything. I still haven’t even mentioned what happens when money is involved ! Many times we are children of rigor. We don’t know how to make use of our freedom; that beautiful gift God gave us. What society are we going to leave for our next generation? Perhaps your way to contribute today; this could be simply to Not roll down the window to throw trash in the street. Let’s start there.
2) Signs: there are so many signs that God is in your life, but we keep imagining a fantasy world. We want God to be like Harry Potter and do magic tricks for us. See that your life itself is a sign. If you have your health and something to eat, these are signs. Do you want more? If you have someone who loves you in this world, it is another sign; you can see, walk, and breathe…more signs. If you can read or listen to this reflection, it is another sign. I think the signs are there, but your gaze is on something else, or on signs that you are looking for. But the signs that God is present in your life are already there. Take advantage of them and enjoy living.
3) Somebody who is more: During this lent, try to meet Jesus. Come back to yourself, and live the spiritual life. God will never leave you. You have a lot to live and to give. Jesus is in your life and He wants to lead you to plenitude and abundance. Don’t be afraid to experience God in your life.
