Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Matthew 1:16,18-21,24a
Jacob was the father of Joseph, the husband of Mary. Of her was born Jesus who is called the Christ.
Now this is how the birth of Jesus Christ came about. When his mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, but before they lived together, she was found with child through the holy Spirit.
Joseph her husband, since he was a righteous man, yet unwilling to expose her to shame, decided to divorce her quietly.
Such was his intention when, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary your wife into your home. For it is through the holy Spirit that this child has been conceived in her.
She will bear a son and you are to name him Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.”
When Joseph awoke, he did as the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took his wife into his home.
Glorious Patriarch, St. Joseph
1) Righteous man: This is what you and I are invited to: to be correct people. Do not do evil, and do not generate evil. You and I are called to be people of good and people who want good for those around us. Saint Joseph could have used vengeance and even stoned Mary if he wanted to, but he was a righteous man who did not seek to do evil to anyone. Never stop doing good, and if you are hurting someone -take a step back- God and time heal everything. Never forget that.
2) While thinking: There are times when our minds keep turning thoughts over and over because of so many worries. Now, with the coronavirus and so many other problems , we worry. But it is in knowing that we are limited and no matter how much we try, there are things that will always escape us… things that we cannot control. It is knowing and recognizing that we are limited beings; that we must learn to trust in God. One does what is possible and entrusts God with what is not possible. Saint Joseph lived in humility, and true humility is in the total abandonment to God in obedience.
3) Wake up: Come on, we need to keep going! Don’t fill your head with that paranoia that is going around all over the world. You are a person who has life, and is called to give life. Do not stop sharing that hope, just like Saint Joseph had. Today, God wants to fill you with Himself and give you the peace that only he can give. In this time of lent we are invited to live “Christ in Gethsemane” in silence and prayer. But live it in great hope because the time of Resurrection is near. Don’t let your thoughts get you down… today, just with as with Saint Joseph, hope must overcome !
Let us pray: Eternal God, today we come before you to ask for every human being; we are weak and we need you. Give us health so we can continue to give ourselves to others. Give us Peace so this corona virus pandemic will not take away the peace of our society, or let us lose reason. Give us Humility to remind us that we are not all-powerful. Give us Wisdom, to find a cure and Prudence to know how to take care of our world with total responsibility. We ask this of You, who are our Hope and our Relief, Amen.
