An Appointment with the Bible (XV)

Today, Sunday, May 21, we celebrate the Ascension of the Lord. Isn’t it a good reason for a new appointment with the Bible? In Digital Catholic Missionaries we think it is!

In the Gospel according to St. Luke, in chapter 9, verse 18, Jesus questions the disciples: Once when Jesus was praying in solitude, and the disciples were with him, he asked them, “Who do the crowds say that I am?” In the following verse, verse 19, the apostles reply, “John the Baptist; others, Elijah; still others, ‘One of the ancient prophets has arisen.” But it seems that Jesus wants to go deeper and in verse 20 He asks them: “But who do you say that I am?”

Today, the day we celebrate the Ascension of the Lord, this is the question that Jesus asks each one of us. A question that each of us should ask ourselves, “Who is Jesus is for me?” In order to help you meditate on this question, we have selected seven quotations from the Gospel of John in which Jesus tells us who he is.

I am the living bread that came down from heaven; whoever eats this bread will live forever; and the bread that I will give is my flesh for the life of the world.”
