Luke 12, 39-48

by Fr. Luis A. Zazano

Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Luke 12, 39-48

Jesus said to his disciples:
“Be sure of this:
if the master of the house had known the hour
when the thief was coming,
he would not have let his house be broken into.
You also must be prepared,
for at an hour you do not expect, the Son of Man will come.”

Then Peter said,
“Lord, is this parable meant for us or for everyone?”
And the Lord replied,
“Who, then, is the faithful and prudent steward
whom the master will put in charge of his servants
to distribute the food allowance at the proper time?
Blessed is that servant whom his master on arrival finds doing so.
Truly, I say to you, he will put him
in charge of all his property.
But if that servant says to himself,
‘My master is delayed in coming,’
and begins to beat the menservants and the maidservants,
to eat and drink and get drunk,
then that servant’s master will come
on an unexpected day and at an unknown hour
and will punish the servant severely
and assign him a place with the unfaithful.
That servant who knew his master’s will
but did not make preparations nor act in accord with his will
shall be beaten severely;
and the servant who was ignorant of his master’s will
but acted in a way deserving of a severe beating
shall be beaten only lightly.
Much will be required of the person entrusted with much,
and still more will be demanded of the person entrusted with more.”

Be Loyal

1. Time. It’s one of the most valuable things we have, but it’s what we waste, it’s what man has always wanted but has never been able to control. Time leaves its mark, and we even buy makeup so that wrinkles aren’t noticed, and some people lie about their age. However, it’s time that allows you to acquire knowledge and experience, two unique riches that are key to your life and to your future.

2. Unexpected. Nobody knows when Jesus’s second coming will take place. We know that death is inevitable, and that we’ll have to make the passage from life to Life. That’s why you must live each day as if it were the only day, the last day and the first day. Don’t drown in a glass of water, don’t feel overwhelmed by the situations you have to go through, remember that life is more than what you have to face today. Don’t be tormented by a gust of wind, when there are others who face hurricanes in life. Live and strive on without complaining, just as Mother Teresa did. Face life and move forward as so many people do, even people with serious problems, undergoing a terminal illness, for example, and who still go forward with enthusiasm for life. Stop thinking about that problem or that person who seems to be a thorn in your side, because life goes on and time goes by.

3. Work: Do your own thing and work for your life. Don’t waste your time on things that don’t contribute to your life. Work for those things that bear fruit in you and also in those around you. Live and work for those things that do you good and that give you hope, that fulfill you. Don’t waste your time on things that you know will end in nothing.  Work towards building your own life and take care of it; be a mature, responsible person. Start by looking at yourself and knowing that we are all simply administrators of the life we’ve been given (because we don’t own anything), you’ll achieve many wonders.

Always remember that something good is on the way!

God bless you and protect you in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
